Please tell us about the projects you worked on before making ‘Inspire’. How did you start, and how did you learn to make films?
My journey into filmmaking started from a young age, the big screen, especially the big movies that would influence me. At first, I was more interested in photography, where I understood about the basics of camera angles, shots, I started to do small scale projects such as short films and videos for my church. These projects allowed me to experiment with storytelling techniques, camera work, editing while learning the basics of filmmaking. I would also refer to various articles related to filmmaking. With each project I have learned the technical aspects of filmmaking (still learning) as I feel Filmmaking is a continuing learning process which gives me valuable opportunities to develop my craft and understand more about the process of filmmaking. It also gave me a confident and experience in creating few experimental videos. I started to attend couple of filmmaking workshops, film festivals which evoked my interest more in studying about the new aspects. I started to become more passionate about creating few projects which would help me explore themes and ideas that were personally meaningful to me and push my creative boundaries.
Tell us about ‘Inspire’. How do you describe it?
The idea of inspire came into my mind when I was going through a dark phase in my life. Sometimes beautiful things evolve when we go through a rough period. It was then when I started to visualize the movie in my mind and started to put on paper. I wanted to create something small with a meaningful message that could be an inspiration for new and aspiring creators.
Please tell us about your favorite filmmakers.
Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, Micheal Bay, are few of my favorite filmmakers
If you were given a good budget, what would be your ideal project?
Given a good budget, my ideal short film project would be a thought-provoking thriller set in a near-future. The story would follow a protagonist who discovers a hidden truth about his past which would affect his future and how he has to make amends with his past with a given time frame
Describe how you would ensure that production is on schedule. What steps would you take?
The production is on schedule is crucial for every film, especially one with a significant budget like a short film. Steps would involve
Detailed Pre-Production Planning
-making sure my story, treatment and the screenplay is finalized, scouting of locations, shooting schedule, equipment’s required. Hiring crew with experience as it would be beneficial in keeping on track with completing the movie on time and they could help with some issues if they arise during the filming.
Meetings with the team in discussing about the project, having the open communication will ensure that we get the feedback from everyone and we could work on that. Transparency among each other which help the team to stay on the same page ensuring the project gets delivered on time, Meetings is also an opportunity to address any concerns and also to support each other
Having a Backup Plan-Always making sure that we always have a backup plan with factors like weather, location changes, equipment issues which would disrupt the shooting schedule.
What was the hardest part of making ‘Inspire’.
Hardest part of making Inspire was when shooting the outdoors, weather played a major factor in disrupting the shoot couple of times which I had to change the dates which actually conflicted with the dates of my artist. I had to finalize on a date later in order to go ahead with the shoot.
If possible, tell us about your next work. What plans do you have for your future work?
My next project is about the protagonist who has intellectual disability finding it hard to move on in life when her friend moves on from her life all of sudden and how she has to deal with it.
At the moment I would like to concentrate more on the screen writing aspects of the filmmaking and want to create a portfolio, explore the various genres such as thriller, action, sci-fi, fantasy. I would like also like look more about the technical aspects of the filmmaking and in the future would like to do a feature film
